This week’s portion Leviticus 23:23–32 describes the two-day celebration that begins on the first day of Tishrei, which is the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year.
This week, our popular Root Source teacher Rabbi Gedalia Meyer talked about "Nitzavim". Check it below.
We are delighted to share this lesson from our course Bobs Observations 3 with our great teacher Gidon Ariel "Rosh Hashana". Learn from Gidon Ariel.

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah actually means “Head of the Year.” Just like the head controls the body, our actions on Rosh Hashanah have a tremendous impact on the rest of the year.
Nitzavim: Rabbi Gedalia Meyer's Weekly Torah Study
Our popular Root Source teacher Rabbi Gedalia Meyer has been giving short weekly teaching on the Weekly Portion for the Temple Institute.
We are grateful to our friends at the Temple Institute who gave permission to provide Rabbi Meyer’s teachings here too.
Judaism has a whole bunch of holidays, most from the Bible going back thousands of years. Rosh Hashanah, literally the head or beginning of the year, is one of the most important holidays, but there is a lot about it that is not well known. Gidon Ariel teaches about some of the basics of this important holiday.
On Rosh HaShana we read in Torah the story of the birth of Yitzchak, the son of Avraham and Sara, and also about the binding of Yitzchak, G-d's test of Avraham's faith and trust in Him. We also read about Hagar and her son Yishmael, who, sent
into the wilderness by Avraham and Sara, also need to place their trust in HaShem, who, in their despair, opens their eyes to life giving waters and a brighter future, a lesson for all of us today, struggling with whatever challenges G-d sends our way. Shana Tova - a blessed new year for all!
#7--Captain had killed the engine. We were mid-lake, not moving. “We made Aliyah May 14, 1983, thirty-five years to the day that Israel became a nation,” Terri said.
Eric arced his arm over the Lake. “We love the sheer beauty of the Galilee.”
“If it was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for us,” Terri said. I know a street-fighter when I meet one. The tousled pixie hair, the outsized sparkly spectacles, the flame-red nails on the fingers she extended to me--
“Aliyah is Hebrew, modern Hebrew for the return of God’s chosen people, the Jews, to their promised land from all the nations where they have been scattered. Eric and I—Eric’s Gentile, and me a Jew, of course, a Messianic Jew—” Her flame-tipped fingertips clutched his elbow. “. . . We’ve dedicated ourselves to the astounding prophetic significance of Aliyah. What do all believers hope for? The return of the Lord! Ezekiel says when the Jews return to their homeland—and he prophesied this 2,500
years before they started coming home in 1881—when they return, the Lord clicks his stopwatch that will tick down to the most incredible event of history—the return of Jesus!”

Israel’s New Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was just in Washington DC meeting President Joe Biden. How did it go? Follow me to learn about what happened, beyond the headlines.
Gidon tries to have one on one Zoom video chats with people who are interested in having one.
A Root Source friend, Lorraine, took Gidon up on his offer, and they had a lovely talk.
Afterwards, she sent him this heartfelt message and agreed to share it.
"I was reading about Judaism before our chat as before this my knowledge was almost non-existent. I was trying to understand how Christianity became established as separate from Judaism and to work out why this happened. When I did work it out I was horrified and upset.
Then I started to read about the Holocaust and I saw pictures and I don't mean to sound dramatic but I dropped to my knees and I sobbed and sobbed and then I got very angry and confused. I was seeing how other people had interpreted the Bible and God's message of Love that led them to believe the atrocity of what happened was justified and acceptable.
II'm desperate not to cause offense or upset but I must and want to say Sorry that that happened, I apologise and I hold the shame and guilt of all the Christians who have ever used God's name in vain and persecuted any one of God's children. I am so very sorry for all the trauma, pain and suffering that was needlessly caused during this time and all the other times throughout history.
If I could take on the accountability of all the people who caused that I would shoulder it all and I would carry that for all the rest of my days. I would deny myself heaven if it meant that all the wrongs would be righted and healed or undone completely. Christians should be saying 'Sorry', not 'Jesus'.
If I have spoken out of turn please tell me, I hope in chatting to me you understand my intention, even if the delivery is a bit rough!"
