Our popular Root Source teacher Rabbi Gedalia Meyer has begun giving a short weekly teaching on the Weekly Portion for the Temple Institute. We are grateful to our friends at the Temple Institute who have allowed us to provide Rabbi Meyer’s teachings here too.
Who is a Tzadik? I imagine that many of you are familiar with the beautiful book about Reb Aryeh Levine, zt”l entitled, “A Tzadik in Our Time-The Life of Rabbi Aryeh Levine,” by Simcha Raz.”
We sign off with a beautiful photo of Jerusalem in Contrast.

THE PORTION OF LECH LECHA
This week’s portion Lech Lecha Genesis 12:1-17:27 is a busy one! Abram is commanded by God to leave the land he knows and journey to a place “that I will show thee”. Once there, Abram almost immediately experiences famine, family tension and war. Through it all, however, God is with him, promising him greatness. At the end of the portion, God commands Abram to circumcise himself and the members of his household. He renames him
Abraham, and that is how he is known to this day.
Islam - Deception 1 - Love
In this lesson, Rabbi Avi lists the five deceptions of Islam and then begins to explain the first one, which is that Islam is a Religion of Love.

I imagine that many of you are familiar with the beautiful book about Reb Aryeh Levine, zt”l entitled, “A Tzadik in Our Time-The Life of Rabbi Aryeh Levine,” by Simcha Raz.” It is a wonderful engaging story about a very special “tzadik” who lived here and had tremendous positive spiritual influence in Eretz Yisrael in the early days of the establishment of the state -1969. I was in conversation with Reb Aryeh’s grandson, Rav Benjy Levine,
himself is quite a special person, who told me the following anecdote. He had the “z’chut” to live with Reb Aryeh. He told me that once Chaim Be’er asked his grandfather, “is it true that you are really one of the 36 Tzadikim?” Reb Aryeh thought and answered, “Sometimes yes and sometimes no.” Everyone one of us can be one of the 36 .When you rise above yourself and help another person you become a Tzadik.
