[For] a seven day period, you shall bring a fire offering to the Lord. On the eighth day, it shall be a holy occasion for you, and
you shall bring a fire offering to the Lord. It is a [day of] detention. You shall not perform any work of labor. Leviticus 23:36

Shemini Atzeret. [God says to Israel,] “I have detained you [to remain] with Me.” This is analogous to a king who invited his sons to feast with him for a certain number of days, and when the time came for them to leave, he said: “My sons! Please, stay with me just one more day; it is difficult for me to part with you!”

Our popular Root Source teacher Rabbi Gedalia Meyer has begun giving a short weekly teaching on the Weekly Portion for the Temple Institute. We are grateful to our friends at the Temple Institute who have allowed us to provide Rabbi Meyer’s teachings here too.
Crossing The Bridge. We are on the bridge. Traveling from the intensity and physical deprivations of Yom Kippur to the simchah, the feeling of safety and security of Sukkot.Just like that. We show up, beg forgiveness from the bottom of our hearts, bow down on all fours, yearning to be totally connected to Hashem and each other.
We sign off with a beautiful photo of the Church Altar.
Shalom,

We are on the bridge. Traveling from the intensity and physical deprivations of Yom Kippur to the simchah, the feeling of safety and security of Sukkot.Just like that. We show up, beg forgiveness from the bottom of our hearts, bow down on all fours, yearning to be totally connected to Hashem and each other. As the gates close we realize that we are blessed to be on the other side, on the inside. Our slate is clean and our connection
is covered with love.
With that realization in mind, heart and soul, we spend four days on the bridge of preparation to be the happiest people in the world. Simchah, the essence of the Sukkot holiday, is ours to experience. Now we know that we have the connection and we can concentrate our efforts toward being on the inside of the essence of this great holiday. Joy! Together in happiness under the shadow of Hashem.
