This portion Shoftim Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9, deals extensively with the legal system the people must establish when they enter the land. From courts to kings and priests to false witnesses and murderers, the portion details what God expects the people to do in each case.
The portion then goes on by instructing the people in proper procedures for war. It also details what should be done in the event of an unsolved murder.
Prepare For The Biblical Feasts Alongside The Jewish People
Christian visitors to Israel are likely already familiar with Rabbi Jeremy Gimpel, a modern day pioneer in Israel who, along with his partner Rabbi Ari Abramowitz, is transforming the Arugot Farm in Judea into a must-visit destination for lovers of the Bible from around the world.
At the heart of the Arugot Farm is a spiritual retreat center geared to spiritual tourism focused on prayer, music and Torah that are connected to the Land of Israel. Over the past several years, Gimpel and Abramowitz have hosted approximately 10,000 visitors who came to experience the magic of Arugot Farm, one or two at a time, or in groups large and small. Gimpel estimated that half of their visitors have been Christians.
Bob O’Dell recently lost his father, Paul H. O’Dell, Jr. at age 93 1/2 in San Antonio Texas. He says a few words about him below.
Bob’s Comments:
Both my father and mother were pro-Israel Christians during their lives. Their work plowed the fields for the call that I received in 2013 to go to Jerusalem and look for Orthodox Jews who might want my help in starting or growing their organizations. That is how I met Gidon in January 2014. However, my mother passed almost five years before that call so it was my father was my cheerleader and was my greatest encourager during that time.

This trip will change your life.
You will never read the Bible the same way after you visit the places in which the stories happened.

This week’s music: Reva L’sheva Ki Ba Moed
“Re’eh Anochi noten lifneichem hayom, brachah uklalah” Look at what I am giving you today, blessing and curse (Devarim 11.26). This is the opening verse of this week’s Torah portion of “Re’eh.” Hashem is imploring us to open our eyes today. What is so important about today, that the word appears three times in the first three verses of the portion? Reb Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev explains that each day is a special and new day. Each day
Hashem is sending new goodness down to our world. “Hamechadesh b’tuvo b’chol yom tamid ma’aseh bereshit,” He is creating goodness every day of our lives and all we need to do is open our eyes to see it, receive it and connect to it.
