Dear ,
This Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Chukat Numbers 19:1-22:1, begins with the laws of the red heifer, an unusual ritual which causes the participant to become pure, but those involved in the preparation to become impure.

Zeide Korach. We all grew up learning that “Korach,” the main personality in this week’s Torah portion, was a selfish trouble maker, always up to no good, looking for a good argument.
We sign off with a beautiful photo of Candles in a Church.
Shalom,

This Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Chukat Numbers 19:1-22:1, begins with the laws of the red heifer, an unusual ritual which causes the participant to become pure, but those involved in the preparation to become impure. From there, the narrative picks up again with the death of Moses’s sister, Miriam, and a lack of water for the people. Moses and Aaron are told by God that they have failed to sanctify His name before the people and
as a result are destined to die in the desert. In fact, Aaron’s death is also recorded in this portion.

This week’s music: V’anachnu Korim
We all grew up learning that “Korach,” the main personality in this week’s Torah portion, was a selfish trouble maker, always up to no good, looking for a good argument. After all, who could have the chutzpah to argue with the greatest leader of all time, Moshe Rabenu. Moshe Rabenu, whose every word was merely an extension of the mouth of God, is now being attacked by his cousin as a nepotistic person at the end of his line. In order to
validate this assessment, let’s look at the opening words of this Torah portion so that we can decide for ourselves.
