Dear ,
This Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Shelach Numbers 13:1-15:41, focuses primarily on the Sin of the Spies, which results in God’s decree that the Israelites must wander in the desert for forty years instead of entering the land of Israel directly. It also includes details regarding a number of laws, such as the libations which must be brought alongside certain sacrifices and the separation of a portion of all bread baked for the sustenance of
the priests. We are told what must be done to atone for sins and, through the example of the wood-gatherer, what to do with those who violate the Sabbath. The portion ends with the command to tie fringes, or tzitzit, onto the corners of any four-cornered garment.
We are delighted to share this lesson from our Women in the Bible channel with our great teacher Rivkah Adler, "Sarah 8 - The Birth of Isaac." If you are not a registered member of Root Source, you can click the link there to sign up there for free.
Our popular Root Source teacher Rabbi Gedalia Meyer has begun giving a short weekly teaching on the Weekly Portion for the Temple Institute. We are grateful to our friends at the Temple Institute who have allowed us to provide Rabbi Meyer’s teachings here too.
Root Source Tours retells the incredible story of the Burma Road in Israel that saved Jerusalem in 1948. This 3-part video celebrates the 72nd Anniversary of Israel. In part 3, we discuss the movie made on these events, and Bob O’Dell suggest ways we might draw lessons from this story for the future.
We are happy to share with you a couple of Facebook links that you might also want to share with those who don’t know the Bible as well as you do, but might be interested in appreciating the strong bond of friendship that exists between the United States and Israel.
Looking for the Light. We are commanded to look for God. “Dirshu Hahsem b’himatzo,” seek God where He is found, “k’ra’uhu b’heyotem karov, call out to him when he is close to you.” (Yeshayahu 55). “Hashem melech,” God is King, (Psalms 10:16) “Hashem malach,” God was King, (Psalms 93:1) “Hashem yimloch l’lolam va’ed,” God will be the ruling King forever (Shmot 15.18).
We sign off with a nice comment from a Root Source student and a beautiful photo of a Church Dome.
Shalom,
Gidon Ariel and Bob O’Dell

Episode 3: The Hebrew Language Embraced by the US Intelligentsia
Dear Root Source friends,
Here is the first of the Facebook links that you might want to share with those who don’t know the Bible as well as you do, but might be interested in appreciating the strong bond of friendship that exists between the United States and Israel.
Episode one is less than 4 minutes and is titled: The Hebrew Language Embraced by the US Intelligentsia.
This week’s music: You Are The Kind
We are commanded to look for God. “Dirshu Hahsem b’himatzo,” seek God where He is found, “k’ra’uhu b’heyotem karov, call out to him when he is close to you.” (Yeshayahu 55). “Hashem melech,” God is King, (Psalms 10.16) “Hashem malach,” God was King, (Psalms 93.1) “Hashem yimloch l’lolam va’ed,” God will be the ruling King forever (Shmot 15.18).
“History repeats itself,” they always say. Yes, what happened in our collective past is eternal. It always has the potential to return again. We as a people believe that events in history are alive in the present and simultaneously we yearn and hope for a better future. “The Torah is forever and eternal,” teaches The Slonimer Rebbe time and time again. The Holy Torah, which is the embodiment of God, connects us to our past, supports
us in our present and directs us to our future.

Thank you Bob! your presentation provides a window to see how the hand of God worked together with human actions in the fulfillment of the words of scripture.
Isa 66:8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once?
