Dear ,
This Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Nasso Numbers 4:21-7:89, is the longest single portion in the Torah (the combined portions of Matot-Masei, when they are read together, are longer). It continues listing the responsibilities of the various families of Levites which began in Bamidbar. From there, it elaborates on several laws, including those pertaining to a husband who suspects his wife of infidelity, and the Nazirite who wishes to commit
himself more fiercely to holiness. Finally, the portion ends with the contributions of the tribal leaders to the Tabernacle’s dedication.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gidon was unable this May to travel to Dallas, Texas as he had been doing for the past two years, and taking the opportunity to host and teach “Root Source Live.” But from bitter comes sweet: we presented Root Source Live via Zoom! Gidon’s wife Devra taught “A special reading of the Book of Ruth – From a Jewish
Woman’s Perspective”
Bob asked Gidon how connected The Vision of the Valley of the Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37:1-14) is to the Holocaust and Israel in the eyes of Orthodox Jews. Watch the Vision of The Valley of the Dry Bones, the Holocaust and Israel below!
Root Source Tours retells the incredible story of the Burma Road in Israel that saved Jerusalem in 1948. This 3-part video celebrates the 72nd Anniversary of Israel. In part 1, we tell the story of a chance meeting of two jeeps that is going to be come the stuff of legends in the years to come.
We are happy to share with you a couple of Facebook links that you might also want to share with those who don’t know the Bible as well as you do, but might be interested in appreciating the strong bond of friendship that exists between the United States and Israel.
Count Me In. The opening of the book of “Bamidbar,” Numbers, primarily deals with the counting of the numbers of B’nai Yisrael in the desert. Both here and at the initial time of the building of the “mishkan,” the travelling tabernacle, it was of great importance for every member of B’nai Yisrael to be counted in. During the times of The Beit Hamikdash, sacrifices were brought to the Holy Temple to atone for the sins of the Jewish
nation. The Torah teaches us that the money for the sacrifices must come from the entire nation, rich and poor, everyone contributing the same exact amount, “machatzit hashekel,” a half shekel. Through this act of giving, we each stated that we needed each other, by the very fact that each of us was only one half, incomplete without the other. As a result of this recognition and the desire to be counted in, we all had equal representation in the atonement before Hashem. It was an exemplary
recognition of the fact that I am a part of something bigger than myself. I am a proud member of the nation of Israel.
We sign off with a nice comment from a Root Source student and a beautiful photo of Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem.
Shalom,

Israel and the Nations - Biblical Promise of the Land class 1
Israel and the Nations - Biblical Promise of the Land class 1 - There thirty-six individual instances that God promises the land of Israel to the children of Israel in the Torah. David reviews four promises mentioned in the book of Genesis. The first time God speaks with Abraham is the beginning of the Jewish faith and promises of the land.

The Vision of the Valley of the Dry Bones, the Holocaust and Israel
Bob asked me how connected The Vision of the Valley of the Dry Bones (Ezekiel 37:1-14) is to the Holocaust and Israel in the eyes of Orthodox Jews. He probably asked me that because he remembered that once I told him that for me on a scale of one to ten it is an eleven.
But a quick search on the Internet did not help me find an authoritative source for that understanding (perhaps because it is so obvious?) I found dozens of source sheets dealing with this topic created by members of Sefaria.org, and a very touching short talk by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, former Chief Rabbi of Israel, but the clearest mapping of that prophetic chapter in Ezekiel to these two chapters in Jewish history I found not as a
textual essay but as a photo essay uploaded to Youtube.

Thank you Bob! your presentation provides a window to see how the hand of God worked together with human actions in the fulfillment of the words of scripture

Thank you Bob ….your presentation provides a window to see how the hand of God worked together with human actions in the fulfillment of the words of scripture. Isa 66:8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once?
