Dear ,
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Noah Genesis 6:9-11:32, relates the story of Noah and his descendants. God expresses His disappointment in humankind, but singles out Noah and his family for salvation from the destruction He is planning to send. He commands Noah to build an ark and carry with him two of each animal to repopulate the Earth after the waters recede.
A Special Sukkot Torah School For The Nations Video For You To Enjoy From Home. Watch it below!
We recently introduced you to Yehudah Katz and the Ma’agal and some of their music. Today we share with you even more music and a discussion on the Jewish concept of elicha: on calling out to you.
How Good. The word “tov,” good, has a central place in “parshat Bereshit.” Starting with, “ vayar Elohim et ha’or ki tov,” and Hashem saw that the light was good (Bereshit 1.4). This is followed by Hashem’s statement (Bereshit 2.18) “lo tov heyot Adam l’vado,” it is not good for man to be alone. Later on we learn about the “etz hada’at tov v’ra,” the tree of knowledge, good and bad, that gave the possibility to man to know good from bad
(Bereshit 3.22). In addition, Hashem, in response to Kayin’s behavior and blatant disappointment to the reality that God did not t accept his gift, tells him, “halo im tativ s’et,” if you do good will there not be special privilege? (Bereshit 4.7). So many issues described as good.
The LIST is a compilation of more than 800 atrocities committed by Christians, Christian nations, or in the name of Christ, against the Jews over the past two millennia. Never before has this amount of research been compiled into a single volume by Christians, for Christians.
We sign off with a lovely comment from a Root Source student and a beautiful photo of Eilat.
Shalom,

Noah complies, and he and his family spend a year aboard this floating zoo. When it is finally safe to walk the land again, Noah offers sacrifices of gratitude and God sends a rainbow to promise He will never flood the entire world again.
Noah also plants a vineyard and becomes intoxicated. One son ridicules his father, while the other two protect him. Noah curses the one and blesses the others.
Also in this week’s portion is the story of the Tower of Babel, when the people of the Earth decided to build a tower to heaven. God mixes up the languages they speak and disperses them across the face of the Earth.
Additionally, we are treated to two genealogical lists of Noah’s descendants.
Happy Studying!

When the Land Sings. Part 2. (Originally published in March 2019)

So why specifically, in the last verse in this week’s Torah portion does it say “V’Noach matza chen b’enei Hashem,” and Noah found favor in God’s eyes (Bereshit 6.8). Why does the Torah use the word “Chen,” grace or favor, to describe the way
Hashem looked at Noach, as opposed to, and Noach was good person in the eyes of God? Why the sudden switch in the theme of describing the way Hashem looks at things? A bit of a strange way to say that you like someone or to validate someone’s goodness.
