This week, the weekly Torah reading Tetzaveh, we read the details of the construction of the Tabernacle, the sanctuary in the desert. This week's Parshah, Tetzaveh, we discover the special garments worn by the priests and high priest when serving in the Tabernacle. Following that, we read God's instructions to Moses regarding the seven-day inauguration for the Tabernacle. The portion concludes with a description of one of the
vessels of the Tabernacle—the Incense Altar.

In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Tetzaveh , Exodus 27:20 – 30:10, God tells Moses to receive from the children of Israel pure olive oil to feed the “everlasting flame” of the menorah, which Aaron is to kindle each day, “from evening till morning.”
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Ezekiel 43:10-27 , the prophet Ezekiel describes a vision of the altar that will be built for the third Holy Temple and its dedication ceremony—paralleling this week’s Torah portion which discusses the dedication of the Tabernacle’s altar.

One of my heroes and role models, and THE great trailblazer in Jewish-Christian relations, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein died this past Tuesday.
He founded the International Fellowship of Christians of Jews (IFCJ), which has been a great supporter of Jewish immigration, the poor in Israel (not just the Jewish poor), and was a pioneer in the education of Christians about Judaism. Many of the jetways at the Ben Gurion International Airport have IFCJ posters that show Rabbi Eckstein on the walls for every person who embarks and disembarks from the
airport.
Tragically, the Rabbi suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday and died suddenly.
My friend Paul Calvert interviewed Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein on Monday, and was therefore the last person to ever interview him. We are honored to share this 48 minute video with our readers.
May his memory be blessed.
