This week, the weekly Torah reading Beshalach, Pharaoh pursues the Israelites into the desert. The Red Sea splits, the Israelites cross the sea while the Egyptian army is drowned. Moses and the Israelites sing a special song thanking God for this miracle. The Israelites complain about a lack of food and drink. God sends Manna and quail for them to eat, and miraculously produces water from a rock. Amalek attacks the Israelites and
is soundly defeated.

In this Shabbat's weekly Torah portion Beshalach , Exodus 13:17 - 17:16 , Soon after allowing the children of Israel to depart from Egypt, Pharaoh chases after them to force their return, and the Israelites find themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s armies and the sea. God tells Moses to raise his staff over the water; the sea splits to allow the Israelites to pass through, and then closes over the pursuing Egyptians. Moses and the children of Israel sing a song
of praise and gratitude to God.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Judges 4:4 - 5:31 , describes the fall of the Canaanite general Sisera and his armies, who were swept away by the Kishon River, and Deborah's ensuing song of thanks. This parallels this week's Torah portion which discusses the drowning of the Egyptian forces in the Red Sea and and the subsequent songs led by Moses and Miriam.

Root Source began in 2014, just at the very beginning of a series of “very interesting years” that have just ended. Here is a quick look back in time.
The year 2014 witnessed the first two of the Four Blood Moons on Passover and Sukkot that were made famous by Mark Biltz and John Hagee. That was the year that Root Source was officially registered with the Israel Registrar of Companies, and the
year the first student signed up.
The year 2015 witnessed the fall culmination of the Shemitah year, that had been introduced to many Christians by Jonathan Cahn in his books The Harbinger and The Mystery of the Shemitah. The year 2015 also witnessed the appearing of the last two
Blood Moons on the nights of Passover and Sukkot in 2015.

What is Jewish Torah Study?

I came across this article which describes the elementary, secondary and advanced school lifestyle of Orthodox Jews.
While the author focuses on the Ultra-Orthodox community, my more modern Orthodox community is virtually identical to the experience the author describes.
He translates traditional study into academic jargon, and I am not sure which a layman might understand better :-) I recommend this article to get a feeling about traditional Jewish Torah study, not necessarily with any connection to the political issue the author is responding to.
