This week, the weekly Torah
reading Vayelech, recounts the events of the final day of Moses' terrestrial life. Moses transferred leadership to Joshua and wrote a Torah scroll which he handed over to the Levites. Moses commanded the Israelites to gather following every Sabbatical year, and informed them of the suffering which will be their lot when they will abandon the laws of the Torah.
Today we begin
a special multi-part series on a discovery that connects the New Testament to the Hebrew Bible in a way you likely have never considered before. We are providing this information as a Video (which we recommend), or for those who prefer, a written transcript is also being provided.
On Rosh Hashanah imagine you are praying in the ancient Abuhav Synagogue in Tzfat. Pick a ripe
pomegranate off the table of the Machane Yehuda shuk in Jerusalem. Hike the Arbel mountain at sunset. Gaze at the Land from atop Har Gilboa. These are just a few of the scenes in this year’s calendar.

Weekly Portion: Vayelech – September 15 – 6th of Elul |
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Vayeilech Deuteronomy 31:1 – 31:30, (“and he went”) recounts the events of Moses’ last day of earthly life. “I am one hundred and twenty years old today,” he says to the people, “and I can no longer go forth and come in.” He transfers the leadership to Joshua, and
writes (or concludes writing) the Torah in a scroll which he entrusts to the Levites for safekeeping in the Ark of the Covenant.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Isaiah 55:6 – 56:8, the Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is known as Shabbat Shuva or “Shabbat of Return (Repentance).” The name is a reference to the opening words of the week’s haftorah, “Shuva Israel — Return O Israel.” This haftorah is read in honor of the Ten
Days of Repentance, the days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
