This week, the weekly Torah reading Shoftim, addresses
fundamental issues pertaining to the leadership of the Jewish people. It begins with a discussion regarding judges, and later gives rules pertaining to kings, prophets and kohanim (priests). Many commandments are introduced in this week’s reading, including: appointing judges, the obligation to follow rabbinic law and the words of the prophets, the obligations of a king, the punishment for perjury, the laws of war, and the procedure for dealing with unsolved
murders.

Studio See 014. As some of you know, Gidon and I have authored a couple
of books. That along with our position in Root Source causes us to engage with authors and prospective authors from time-to-time. Here are a few perspectives that I have on that process, both old and…. …so very new that it spurred me on to write on this topic today.
We are happy to share with you an article written to Christians by Tommy Waller. Read it

Weekly Portion: Shoftim – August 18 – 7th of Elul
|
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Shoftim Deuteronomy 16:18 – 21:9, Moses instructs the people of Israel to appoint judges and law enforcement officers in every city. “Justice, justice shall you pursue,” he commands them, and you must administer it without corruption or favoritism. Crimes must be meticulously
investigated and evidence thoroughly examined—a minimum of two credible witnesses is required for conviction and punishment.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Isaiah 51:12 – 52:12, is the fourth of a series of seven “Haftarot of Consolation.” These seven haftarot commence on the Shabbat following Tisha b’Av and continue until Rosh Hashanah.
