This week, the weekly Torah reading Vaetchanan, Moses continues his
attempt to impress upon the Israelites the importance of following God’s commandments, the rewards which will result from obeying God’s words, and the punishments they will incur if they neglect to do so. Moses recounts the story of the giving of Torah at Mount Sinai, and repeats the Ten Commandments. Moses designates cities of refuge. This portion also contains the Shema.

No Lord, there is nothing too hard for you, even reconciliation between your children when the pain remains.

Our student Vicki enjoyed Root Source and had this to say.
Vicki wrote: Eicha, the Hebrew name for the book of Lamentations, means how. Interestingly, this is a question that I asked myself so many times as I read this list. How could people who professed to be followers of Christ be involved in such acts? How did Jews survive these acts for centuries holding on so tenaciously to their beliefs even when they were so systematically and relentlessly persecuted? Questions we may never really have the answers to, but my thoughts kept returning
to the verse, Jeremiah 32:42, “For here is what Adonai says: Just as I have brought this complete disaster on this people, so likewise I will bring on them all the good I have promised them.” None can question but that the plan and purpose of the Father has always been to restore His people. While we cannot change the history of atrocities, we can acknowledge the acts, take responsibility for and turn from them in genuine and heartfelt repentance knowing that by doing so we are affirming
our own belief in the covenant-keeping and restorative power of our heavenly Father.
