This week, the weekly Torah reading Eikev, Moses continues his pep
talk to the Israelites, cautioning them not to fear the Canaanite armies for God will wage battle for them. He also notifies them that their entry into the Land is not due to their own virtues – Moses reminds them of their many transgressions to emphasize this point – but rather, it is in the merit of the nation's Forefathers. The commandments of prayer and Grace After Meals are mentioned. The second part of the Shema is also found in this
portion.

Weekly Portion: Eikev – August 28 – 16th Av
|
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Eikev Deuteronomy 7:12 – 11:25, in the Parshah of Eikev (“Because”), Moses continues his closing address to the children of Israel, promising them that if they will fulfill the commandments (mitzvot) of the Torah, they will prosper in the Land they are about to conquer and
settle in keeping with God’s promise to their forefathers.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Isaiah 49:14 – 51:3, is the second of a series of seven “haftorot of Consolation.” These seven haftarot commence on the Shabbat following Tisha b’Av and continue until Rosh Hashanah.

His Story

This article continues the story I began telling in article
007. It was the 9th of Av on July 16, 2013. I was in God’s trap now. My research on the Blood Moons had forced me to study Jewish history, and here I was taking one minute to
consider each atrocity against Jews in the name of Christ. I was getting overwhelmed. I also could not believe that I had never heard about these things in my fifty years of life. Most astounding was the complete absence of systematic retaliation by the Jewish people against their perpetrators. Jews were being wronged, and yet their restraint (the lack of repaying evil for evil) was more righteous than ours.
Root Source Interviews: Gidon and Doug Talk about their Journeys
|
One of the things we do from time to time at Root Source is to
expose conversations between interesting people. We find that some of the best education comes from listening to a respectful dialog between people who are not “on the same page” theologically.
Gidon Ariel is the CEO and founder of Root Source. Gidon describes himself as an authentic, traditional Orthodox Jew who makes it a life goal to be willing to talk to “any flavor of Christian” who is willing to talk to him, and to engage in meaningful dialog. (This is certainly why he has been so appreciated over the years here at Root Source! You don’t have to walk on tip-toes with Gidon — you can be
yourself!)
ISRAEL FIRST: Christian Leaders Condemn Anti-Semitism in Act of Reconciliation at Israeli Parliament
|
The Jewish people use an annual occasion to mourn the massive tragedies and assaults they have endured on the 9th of Av on the Hebrew calendar, often done in the name of Christian churches. This year we were a delegation of Christian leaders in Israel observed the solemn
remembrance by a declaration of repentance in Israel’s parliament.

Our Israel First! raffle winner Karin Young shared her Root Source Tour experience.
Dear Gidon,
I felt greatly privileged to be a part of the groundbreakingSeventy Years To Israel’s Rebirth tour. Especially as the recipient of the raffle drawing! Thank you again so very much for the opportunity!
This was my first time in the Land so of course it was profound, yet I could tell it was especially rare and wonderful having yourself, Gidon at the helm, along with
pastor-teacher Trey Graham and of course our official guide Charles – all experts and bursting with information and perspective at each point.
Thank you for your leadership! God bless you!

Josefina wrote: Thank you so much for including me in this initiative. I am in tears and overwhelmed with emotions. We are indeed in the last days, and I can look forward to greater strides in Jewish Christian relation as more participate in removing the stones along the way, taking out the stumbling blocks that have marred our relationship. Thank you for your leadership! God bless you!
