This week, the weekly Torah reading Korach, Korach stages a rebellion
against Moses, accusing him of a power grab. He and his entourage are swallowed up by the earth. The people protest, and a plague ensues. Of the staffs submitted by all the tribes, only Aaron's blossoms; proving that he is Gd's chosen. The Israelites are instructed the various presents due to the priests and Levites.
When I first began to spend time with Gidon four years ago, I quickly began to learn about how Jewish men pray three
times a day, and the content of those prayers. But Gidon did something extra: during the middle of his prayer time, I would see him pull a piece of paper from his pocket, and pray over a list of names. What fascinated me was that he had written not just the person’s name, but the name of their mother, for instance: “John Smith, son of Nancy Wellington”. Why had he included the mother, and why use her maiden name?
Root Source Tours takes you to the Hinnom valley in Jerusalem that still shouts out its stories of Life, Death, Hell and Redemption. In our concluding part 6, we tell a story of today, God’s promises for the future of this valley in Jeremiah 31 and 32, and why we know nothing about the person for whom this valley is
named.
Trump and Kim Jong Un may be meeting tomorrow in Korea, but Gidon was interviewed on Korean TV! Watch his interview about the relationship between Jews and Christians
We sign off with a lovely quote from a Root Source student and an amazing photo of a Flowery Hillside.

Weekly Portion: Korach – 16 – 3rd of Tamuz
|
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Korach Numbers 16:1 – 18:32, incites a mutiny challenging Moses’ leadership and the granting of the kehunah (priesthood) to Aaron. He is accompanied by Moses’ inveterate foes, Dathan and Abiram. Joining them are 250 distinguished members of the community, who offer the sacrosanct ketoret
(incense) to prove their worthiness for the priesthood. The earth opens up and swallows the mutineers, and a fire consumes the ketoret-offerers.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading I Samuel 11:14 – 12:22, gathers the Jews to firmly install Saul as king of Israel. During the course of his address to the Jews he called out, “Here I am; bear witness against me before God and before His anointed; whose ox did I take, or whose donkey did I
take, or whom did I rob; or whom did I oppress, or from whose hand did I take a bribe…” This echoes Moses’ statement in this week’s Torah reading: “I have not taken a donkey from a single one of them, and I have not harmed a single one of them.”
