This week, the weekly Torah reading Beha’alotcha, God
instructs Aaron concerning the Tabernacle Menorah lighting. The Levites are initiated into the Tabernacle service. The "Second Passover" is instituted. At God's behest, Moses makes two trumpets, and is instructed how and when to use them. The Israelites leave Mount Sinai, and proceed towards the Land of Canaan. The people unreasonably complain about their "frugal" manna diet and receive a meat supplement, albeit with tragic results. Moses appoints seventy elders to assist him in bearing the
burden of the people. Miriam speaks negatively about Moses and is punished with tzara'at (a skin disease).
Last time we speculated that Lucifer’s sin and subsequent fall from heaven may have been precipitated by a jealous belief that he was going to be subsumed and replaced by mankind, which was being created in the image of God. This time we’ll look to see if replacement theology played a role in the original sin of
Adam and Eve.
Root Source Tours takes you to the Hinnom valley in Jerusalem that still shouts out its stories of Life, Death, Hell and Redemption. In part 4, we describe how the valley came to be used as the Greek and Hebrew word for hell: Gehenna and Gehinnom
respectively.
We sign off with a lovely quote from a Root Source subscriber and a beautiful photo of the Golden Gate.
