In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Behar Leviticus 25:1 – 26:2, on the mountain of Sinai, God communicates to Moses the laws of the Sabbatical year: every seventh year, all work on the land should cease, and its produce becomes free for the taking for all, man and beast.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Jeremiah 32:6 – 32:27, discusses the purchase of a field by Jeremiah, echoing one of the themes of this week’s Torah portion—the purchase and redemption of real estate.

Bob’s 30th Anniversary
and 50th Visit to Israel |
My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary by waking up very early and jumping on an airplane to Israel. Since we
were flying eastward for most of the day, it ended up being our shortest anniversary day ever.
When we mentioned a few weeks prior to that flight, our “lack of an anniversary day celebration” to a few
pro-Israel friends here in Austin, they suggested we check the date of the Hebrew Calendar anniversary. Turns out the Hebrew Calendar anniversary was going to be just two days before the flight — and so that became the day we celebrated with a dinner out.

Earlier this month, the State of Israel celebrated its 70th anniversary.
The story of the modern State of Israel that has unfolded over seven decades is full of miracles of Biblical proportions and is
the literal fulfillment of prophecy. It is the story of a people scattered across the four corners of the world, who survived the worst form of genocide in human history, only to emerge from the grave and achieve a level of blessing and prosperity unmatched in the modern era.

impact on all of our actions, as it should have, many of our decisions might be drastically different. It is important to consider the ramifications of how our decisions will effect others.
