hereDear ,This is a very busy session for Root Source and for Israel. Israel observed
Holocaust Memorial Day last week just after Passover, and this week is Israel's Memorial Day and Independence Day. For these reasons, Root Source is running its first Israel tour right now, led by Gidon. And it's Bob's thirtieth wedding anniversary, mazel tov! For these happy reasons, our newsletter is a bit lean this week, but we'll be back in full force next week! IMPORTANT NEWS: Gidon is coming to Texas again, for the week of
April 29 through May 4. If you would like to meet or host him, please respond to this newsletter!
This week, the weekly Torah reading Acharei-Kedoshim, begins with a detailed description of the service of the High Priest on Yom Kippur. Dozens of commandments are then discussed in this week's reading. Among them: the prohibitions against offering sacrifices outside the
Temple; consuming blood; incestuous, adulterous, or other forbidden relationships; various mandatory gifts for the poor; love for every Jew, prohibition against sorcery; honesty in business dealings; and sexual morality.
Root Source interview. Gidon answers Bob’s question about the why everyone in the
synagogue was kissing the Mezuzah except him, after which Gidon describes the rest of his evening before bed time..
This week our Root Source 70th Anniversary tour concludes by participating in the national celebrations in Jerusalem. The Golden Gate of Jerusalem will be one of the sites visible from
that tour. Let’s take another look at the broadcast we published last year on the Golden Gate.
We sign off with a lovely quote from a Root Source student and a beautiful picture of the Golden Gate.
Shalom, Gidon Ariel and Bob O’Dell Root Source

Weekly Portion: Achrei Mot-Kedoshim – April 21 – 06 Iyyar |
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Achrei Mot-Kedoshim Leviticus 16:1–20:27, following the deaths of Nadav and Avihu, God warns against unauthorized entry “into the holy.” Only one person, the kohen gadol (“high priest”), may—but once a year, on Yom Kippur—enter the innermost chamber in the Sanctuary to offer the
sacred ketoret to God.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Amos 9:7-15, foretells the exiles and punishments that will befall the Jews because they strayed after the ways of the heathens — behavior that this week’s Torah reading proscribes.
Happy Studying!

I
highly recommend Root Source as a wonderful source of information. |
Our student Abigail enjoyed
Root Source and had this to say. Abigail
wrote: I highly recommend Root Source as a wonderful source of information and learning about the Old Testament and Israel and Jewish thought. Know your roots. Know what you are grafted into. See how it all connects. Two of my friends teach there, David Ha'ivri and Gidon Ariel. I have
learned so much from them and from other teachers. Unlike some places on the Internet, Root Source is more affordable. The teachers are willing to interact with the students, too. It is not just videos. You can watch the videos and then contact the teachers with questions. There is also a course in Hebrew. Seth Young is the Hebrew teacher and is soooo helpful. I highly recommend his course. There are a number of different courses and teachers. A new one even covers Biblical
Archaeology! We are pleased to share with you this beautiful photo of the Golden Gate. Photo copyright by Sherwood Burton daystardawn@outlook.com. Thank you Sherwood
