Vayeshev: Rabbi Gedalia Meyer's Weekly Torah Study
Our popular Root Source teacher Rabbi Gedalia Meyer has been giving short weekly teaching on the Weekly Portion for the Temple Institute.
We are grateful to our friends at the Temple Institute who gave permission to provide Rabbi Meyer’s teachings here too.
Yesterday the State of Israel was founded!
Many of my Christian friends are fond of quoting Isaiah 66 verse 8:
Can a nation be brought forth at once?
They proclaim that this prophecy was fulfilled on May 14, 1948, when the State of Israel was declared. However, another important event happened on November 29, 1947, when the United Nations voted to establish a Jewish State in the Land of Israel.
Root Source "New Years' Eve 2022" and Birthday Party for Gidon and Bob!
Shalom!
Who doesn't love a party?
And this coming December 30th, we'll have a lot to celebrate!

On December 30th, we will congratulate Gidon Ariel and Bob O'Dell, founders of Root Source, for their vision of a space where Jews and Christians can be together and be friends, learning with each other and about each other. Both Gidon and Bob were born in "-ember" months, so we will take this opportunity to wish them both a "lechayim!"
Please purchase a ticket (it's free, of course:-) and add a US tax deductible donation
to Root Source.
God bless you! See you there!

Here is one from our readers.
"I so enjoyed your film of the reenactment of the Light horse charge of Beer Sheva. I am one of those who loves history of all kinds and the reenactment was a treat. When I had finished your video, watching on Full screen, I returned to the full page view and discovered that You Tube had lined up several other videos on the subject. I began watching them to see what else I might see. First, was a video which explained the lay out of the battle field with the markings to show the military
layout of all the groups involved in the battle that day. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxp0kDf0MHM) Then, I saw another video from Root Source which further explained the battle. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt6awiIaZfY) Last, I watched a clip from the movie Lighthorsemen which put the viewer in the midst of the charge. And so I had in less than an hour, a good picture of what exactly this was all about and how very important it was to Israel today. Thank you for starting me on this
afternoon of exploration. If I had had all afternoon, there were several other videos from various groups about this one important event. I would someth have seen those and then gone to the atlas to see a close look at the geography of the area, even though that is quite well shown in the various videos. Fascinating history lesson. TY. I truly enjoy all of your videos, even though I complain they are too short and always want more. I am loving being a part of Root Source. I hope to take another
class this winter when life slows down some. But simply reading thrugh yor website is another class for me, as there is always something new to read or see and learn."
