This week, the weekly Torah reading Shemini
is a continuation of the previous week's reading, Tzav, where we learned about the Tabernacle's seven-day inaugural ceremony. This week's reading opens on the eighth day, when God's presence descends upon the Tabernacle. On that day, Aaron's sons Nadab and Avihu die when offering an uncalled-for incense sacrifice. The portion concludes with a discussion about the laws of Kosher and ritual purity.

Weekly Portion: Shmini – April 22 – 26 Nisan
|
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Shemini Leviticus 9:1–11:47 on the eighth day, following the seven days of their inauguration, Aaron and his sons begin to officiate as kohanim (priests); a fire issues forth from God to consume the offerings on the altar, and the divine presence comes to
dwell in the Sanctuary.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading II Samuel 6:1 – 6:19, mentions how Uzzah was struck dead when he disrespectfully touched the Ark of the Covenant; reminiscent of Nadab and Abihu’s death described in this week’s Torah reading. Happy studying!

"I loved this interview!" |
Our student Cindy enjoyed our blog post and had this to say.
Cindy wrote: I loved this interview. I subscribe to Breaking Israel News and am a fan of Adam Berkowitz. I read most of his articles and love the content of them, bringing the Jewish perspective on the coming of Messiah. I look forward to reading this book which Bob speaks so highly of.
