Weekly Portion: Mishpatim – February
25 – 29 Shevat |
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion, Mishpatim (Laws - Exodus 21:1 – 24:18), continuing the revelation at Sinai, God legislates a series of laws for the people of Israel. These include the laws of the indentured servant; the penalties for murder, kidnapping, assault and theft;
civil laws pertaining to redress of damages, the granting of loans and the responsibilities of the “Four Guardians”; and the rules governing the conduct of justice by courts of law.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Jeremiah 34:8 – 34:22; 33:25 – 33:26, Jeremiah describes the punishment that would befall the Jews because they continued enslaving their Hebrew slaves after six years of service–transgressing the commandment
discussed in the beginning of this week’s Torah reading.
Happy studying!

"If I ever get back to Jerusalem, I'd so love to take a historical tour with you! I so love Jewish history!" |
Our student TJ enjoyed watching the Temple Mount from the roof of Aish HaTorah with Rabbi Ken Spiro! and had this to say.
TJ wrote: Hi Rabbi, I enjoyed this so much! Thank you!! Having been to Jerusalem, I can remember many of these sites, but had no idea of the fact that much of what I was seeing wasn't actually as it had been back in the days of the Bible. I do remember touring the lower street but I was sick as a dog while we were there and my attention span wasn't what I'd hoped for. If I ever get back to Jerusalem,
I'd so love to take a historical tour with you! I so love Jewish history! Thanks again and I can't wait for the next video! Shalom and it's good to see you!
