This week, the weekly Torah reading continues the
story of the Exodus of the Children of Israel from Egypt. We read of the actual exodus itself, including the miraculous parting of the Reed Sea - riveting story!
Bob visited Israel and got hours of footage on his camera. We give a taste below. It was Bob's turn to interview Claire Pfann, hear about her life in
Jerusalem.
Bob visited Beersheba, the home of Abraham. Learn about this fascinating city.
We sign off with our lovely quote from a Root Source student and a beautiful picture of a snowy alleyway in Jerusalem.
Shalom,

Weekly Portion:
Beshalach – February 11 – 15 Shvat
|
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Beshalach Exodus 13:17 – 17:16, soon after allowing the children of Israel to depart from Egypt, Pharaoh chases after them to force their return, and the Israelites find themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s armies and the sea. God tells Moses to raise
his staff over the water; the sea splits to allow the Israelites to pass through, and then closes over the pursuing Egyptians. Moses and the children of Israel sing a song of praise and gratitude to God. In the Haftara Prophets reading, Judges 4:4 – 5:31, describes the fall of the Canaanite general Sisera and his armies, who were swept away by the Kishon River, and Deborah’s ensuing song of thanks. This parallels this week’s Torah portion which
discusses the drowning of the Egyptian forces in the Red Sea and the subsequent songs led by Moses and Miriam.
Happy studying!
Teaser: A LOT of exclusive interviews and tours are coming soon! |
Root Source co-founder and director Bob O’Dell visits Israel three or four times a year (or more).
Some of these thoroughly enjoyable trips are spent with Gidon, discussing Root Source business and strategy, but also
visiting a lot of off-the-beaten-track places and visiting under-the-radar people.
Bob recently returned from a January trip, and his camera’s memory card is bursting at the seams!

come!

"I cannot get enough of Israel" |
Our student Barbara got a sneak preview of our tour of Beersheba and had this to say.
Barbara wrote: Thank you for taking us with you on your tour of Beersheva. It was exciting to see one of Abraham's wells. I cannot get enough of Israel, and especially the ancient places. I also remember watching Mr. Ariel's tour of the Cave of the Patriarchs. It was quite touching, yet I was once more disturbed by the lack of freedom of movement at such an important site (I felt the same while looking up to the Temple Mount
when visiting Jerusalem). It will be a glorious day, indeed, when all of the land is returned to Israel's people and Messiah is ruling. I look forward to your continued tours with joy.
