Dear ,

This week, we continue reading the Torah, this week from the portion of Chayei Sarah.

Bob saw Jerusalem from the top of the Tower of David during his last visit. Watch part 2 of the video he recorded.

We share Bob's talk at a recent convention in Jerusalem during the Sukkot celebration. Special guest appearance - our beloved teacher Avi Lipkin!

Bob also weighs in regarding the recent US elections - you will be amazed at his perspective!

Ken Spiro debated a rabid anti-Israel activist. You've got to see this.

We sign off with our lovely quote from a student and a beautiful picture of the Old City of Jerusalem.

Shalom,

Gidon Ariel and Bob O’Dell

Weekly Portion: Chayei Sarah – November 26 – 25 Heshvan

This Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Chayei Sarah (The Life of Sarah), Genesis 23:1 – 25:18, opens with the death of Sarah and her widower Abraham’s mourning for her and especially purchase of the Double Cave (Me’arat Hamachpela) in Hebron in order to bury her. This purchase is recognized as the first acquisition in the Land of Israel by and for the Jewish People.

The rest of the weekly portion focuses almost exclusively on Abraham’s tending to his son Isaac’s finding a bride. He sends his servant Eliezer (though he remains unnamed in the entire portion) to find a fitting bride for his master’s son, and finds the humble and helpful Rebeccah. The portion concludes with Abraham’s death, and the stage is set for the continuation of the story of the patriarchs.

The Haftara Prophets reading, I Kings 1:1 – 1:31, mirrors our Torah reading in recounting a search for a companion for King David and a story of transfer of power or at least focus from King David to his son Solomon.

West Jerusalem Viewed from the David Citadel

Root Source presents Part 2 of a special tour of the Tower of David Museum given by its Director and Chief Curator, Eilat Lieber.

This brief video looks at West Jerusalem landmarks, and among other things, tells the tragic story of the 1947 bombing at the King David Hotel.

Avi and Bob Speak on The Jerusalem Channel

We recently shared with you the talks from Bob and Gidon at the Jerusalem Channel Feast of Tabernacles conference during the week of Sukkot.  On a different night, Root Source teacher Avi Lipkin spoke as well!

Listen to an excerpt from Avi Lipkin's talk on the weekly Jerusalem Channel TV show, and an edited version of Bob's previously published talk as well.

America, Trump
and the Two Golden Calves

Once again, Breaking Israel News is host to another innovative op ed by Bob O'Dell!

Did the recent Trump victory cause you (a) to cry, (b) to celebrate, or (c) to scratch your head and wonder how this is all going to turn out?

Evangelical Christians are divided these days about how much good will be accomplished by a Trump Presidency. This comes from the juxtaposition of its good and bad aspects. For instance, on the one hand, most Christians will rejoice at the possibility of new Supreme Court Justices who would uphold the morals of the Founding Fathers. On the other hand, most of those same Christians recoil at audio recordings of Trump as either a womanizer, a liar or both.

Clearly this election had divine aspects to it. God is in control. He raises up leaders and brings them down. More importantly, we may be at the verge of another Great Awakening in America, although that idea won’t be detailed here.

The question for today is: how should we understand this sudden shift of political power from Democrat to Republican, of more liberal to more conservative?

Ken Spiro is our Hero!

One of the Internet and Social Media's worst anti-Israel activist is Norman Finkelstein. If you haven't heard of him, that's not too surprising, as you probably don't travel in his circles..

Our popular Jewish History teacher, Rabbi Ken Spiro, not only dared to debate this despicable person (a phrase I do not use often, but watch the video and see if you don't agree with me!) but clearly beat him on his own turf.

Please DON'T watch this video if you have a tender stomach, but if you want a peek into the trenches on the war on antisemitism, Ken Spiro is your hero!
