Dear ,

This week, we begin the new cycle of reading the weekly portion with the portion of (you guessed it): In The Beginning! (Genesis). Read about it below.

We received a question for our Ask the Rabbi column, and we think you will be interested in both the question and the answer.

A few months ago, Bob and Gidon were guests at the Moskowitz Prize event in Jerusalem. Today we share about one of the recipients of that prize, Caroline Glick.

We found a fascinating video about the Dead Sea Scrolls. You will be amazed!

And we finish up as usual with a beautiful comment from one of our students and a beautiful picture from the Land of Israel.

Shalom,

Gidon Ariel and Bob O’Dell

Weekly Portion:
Breshit October 29 – 27 Tishrei

This week we read Breshit (In the beginning of), Genesis 1:1 – 6:8.

This is a festive reading, as we are restarting the cycle of reading the entire Torah, some fifty-two portions, one week at a time.

This week’s Prophets reading is from Isaiah 42:5-43:10.

The connection to the Breshit reading is its first verse, which reminds us that God created the heavens and the earth.

I encourage you to read the whole selection, as there is a lot of interesting stuff there!

Ask the Rabbi:
The Jewish View on the Apocrypha

Our friend Cindy asked the following question:

Hello Gidon, I realize you are busy with all the fall festivals, and hope you are greatly blessed during this holy time.

I would love to be there in Jerusalem on Sukkot to celebrate with all of you.

My reason for contacting you is to ask a question. What are your thoughts and views on the Apocrypha. I have never read it and have heard there are stories of the Maccabees as well as a book of Enoch. What is Jewish thought on these books? Are they historical and true?
Thanks, Cindy

Who is Caroline Glick
Zionism Prize – Winner 2

You may not know her, but you know her work. Caroline Glick, no relation to Yehudah Glick, is a premier journalist and media advocate.

Root Source captured both the background presentation on her, and her acceptance speech at the 2016 Moskowitz Prize for Zionism celebration on June 6.

New Technology Allows Dead Sea Scroll to be Read

Computer Scientists in Kentucky have joined together with the Dead Sea Scrolls Project at the Israel Antiquities Authority, to read for the first time, a previously unreadable Dead Sea scroll.

Even though the scroll was too damaged to be opened, new imaging software allows the Hebrew characters to be imaged from all the layers of the scroll.

The scroll near Ein Gedi contains the first two chapters of Leviticus, and is identical to the famous Hebrew Masoretic text, even though it is dated to be about 1000 years earlier.

Watch the following video to see how they did it!

Here's a beautiful comment from Chris:

Gidon,

Greetings from Cincinnati!

I first heard of Root Source through a crosswalk email I received back in early 2015 or late 2014 (I can’t remember). I have been following you guys since. What originally sparked my interest was the blood moon teaching. How interesting the transformation of the subject matter from blood moons to jubilee years and so on and so forth.

I’ve watched as Root Source has grown and spread to where it is now. I think what you guys are doing is awesome!

I believe what’s happening right now with Root Source and other similar organizations is the beginnings of fulfilling prophecies in the scriptures. The writings of Amos speak of a thirst in the land for the word of the Lord.

Zechariah speaks of people of all languages grabbing the robe of a jew and saying let us follow you for God is with you. I’m sure there are more references in the scriptures to Jews teaching gentiles however, I don’t know them currently.

Thanks for following a calling. Your work is important.

Bless you brother, Chris Brzinski
