This week, the weekly Torah reading Toldot, Jacob
and Esau are born. Isaac relocates to Philistine where he digs wells, resulting in friction between him and the locals. Rebecca and Jacob successfully deceive Isaac, tricking him into giving to Jacob the blessings he had intended for Esau.

Weekly Portion: Toldot – November 18 – 29 Cheshvan |
In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Toldot Genesis 25:19 – 28:9 , Isaac and Rebecca endure twenty childless years, until their prayers are answered and Rebecca conceives. She experiences a difficult pregnancy as the “children struggle inside her”; God
tells her that “there are two nations in your womb,” and that the younger will prevail over the elder.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Malachi 1:1 – 2:7, opens with a mention of the tremendous love God harbors for the children of Jacob, and the retribution He will visit upon the children of Esau who persecuted their cousins. This follows the theme of this week’s Torah
reading, whose two protagonists are Jacob and Esau.

that a solar eclipse could corroborate those events seems like good news for sure. Not so fast, please.
Yes, at one level, I suppose that if someone had decided that the Exodus was just a myth, and came across the
idea that one of Joshua’s battles actually occurred on Oct 30, 1207 BC, then this news might increase their faith in the Bible. That would be fine. The date in discussion would be Joshua’s battle of the long day – the day that the sun stood still for a whole day while the army of Israel defeated the five kings of the Amorites. (Joshua 10:5-14).

I so enjoyed your film of the reenactment of the
Lighthorse charge of Beer Sheva. I am one of those who loves history of all kinds and the reenactment was a treat. When I had finished your video, watching on Full screen, I returned to the full page view and discovered that You Tube had lined up several other videos on the subject. I began watching them to see what else I might see. First, was a video which explained the lay out of the battle field with the markings to show the military layout of all the groups involved in the battle that
day. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxp0kDf0MHM) Then, I saw another video from Root Source which further explained the battle. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt6awiIaZfY) Last, I watched a clip from the movie Lighthorsemen which put the viewer in the midst of the charge. And so I had in less than an hour, a good picture of what exactly this was all about and how very important it was to Israel today. Thank you for starting me on this afternoon of exploration. If I had had all afternoon,
there were several other videos from various groups about this one important event. I would sometime have seen those and then gone to the atlas to see a close look at the geography of the area, even though that is quite well shown in the various videos. Fascinating history lesson. TY. I truly enjoy all of your videos, even though I complain they are too short and always want more. I am loving being a part of Root Source. I hope to take another class this winter when life slows down
some. But simply reading through your website is another class for me, as there is always something new to read or see and learn.
