Vayera, angels visit Abraham and Sarah, informing them that Sarah would give birth to a child despite her advanced age. The angels whisk Lot and his daughters out of Sodom, and overturn and destroy the entire region. Abimelech, king of the Philistines, attempts to make Sarah part of his harem, but through divine intervention she is released unharmed. Isaac is born and Ishmael is expelled from Abraham's household. Abraham makes a peace treaty with Abimelech. The story of the
"Binding of Isaac" is recounted – Isaac's "near-sacrifice" experience.

In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Vayera Genesis 18:1 – 22:24, God reveals Himself to Abraham three days after the first Jew’s circumcision at age ninety-nine; but Abraham rushes off to prepare a meal for three guests who appear in the desert heat. One
of the three—who are angels disguised as men—announces that, in exactly one year, the barren Sarah will give birth to a son. Sarah laughs.
In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading II Kings 4:1 – 4:37 , God promises a child to Abraham and Sarah, despite childless Sarah’s advanced age. This week’s haftorah describes a similar incident that occurred many years later — the prophet
Elisha assuring an elderly childless woman that she will bear a child.

This week marks the 100th anniversary of the battle of Be’er Sheva that was the key victory that took the Holy Land out of the hands of the Ottoman Turks, after 400 years of continuous rule.
Be’er Sheva was their stronghold and the key to Palestine. A surprise attack by the British and ANZAC forces combined to win the day.

While much positive celebration will occur on or about October 31, 2017 in connection with the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, we feel it is appropriate to revisit a video we published over a year ago
regarding the Antisemitism of Martin Luther, whose effects continue even today in more than 50 church building across Europe.
The church in which Martin Luther assembled has decided not to take down the Judensau on its own edifice, to move it to a museum as requested, but to leave it glaringly displayed on the outside of
the church building for all to see.
Dr. Richard Harvey, who we interviewed in June 2016, has led the fight to get this decision reversed. He is still requesting more people to sign his online petition.

Once again, Breaking Israel News is host to another innovative op ed by Bob and Gidon!
In the past twenty-six articles and our book
Jubilee Now, we have looked at the Jubilee year from both Jewish and Christian perspectives to examine whether God might be restoring to the world, an identification of the Jubilee calendar as described in Leviticus Chapter 25. The idea was basically that 1967 was such a pivotal year that we needed carefully watch 2016 and 2017 for signs of Jubilee.
We started this journey with you two years ago in November 2015, near the beginning of the year 5776 on the Hebrew Calendar. During 5776 (from September 2015 thru October 2016) we wrote 25 articles explaining the background of the Jubilee and looking for evidence that might help us discover whether year 5776 (which mostly falls in 2016) might be a Jubilee year.
