Dear ,

This week, the weekly Torah reading Yom Kippur, discusses the special Holy Temple service for this holiest day of the year. The highlights of the service were the High Priest's confession on behalf of Israel, his entry into the Holy of Holies amid a cloud of incense, and the dispatch of the Azazel Goat.

This week, we feature a question from our student Raja who was curious about Jews teaching old and new testament.

Root Source Interview presents Teshuvah 2. Repentance! Gidon Ariel of Root Source explains the second kind of Teshuvah — the growing phenomena of people returning to traditional Jewish practice — the Baal Tshuva movement — and even addresses how to describe those who leave traditional Judiasm.

The Revelation 12 event on September 23rd has now come and gone. Bob has taken some photos of the actual event that he will share with you.

Root Source Tours takes you up onto Mount Bental in the Golan and tells you what some Israeli’s say privately about the UN Observers stationed along the Israeli-Syrian border.

Root Source teacher, Rabbi Adler has started a 30 day series of Torah thoughts leading to Rosh Hashanah. We would like to share with you Days 28 - 30. Like our Facebook page to follow Rabbi Elan Adler's 30/30 day series of Torah thoughts.

Weekly Portion:
Yom Kippur – September 30 – 10 Tishrei

In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Yom Kippur Leviticus 16:1-34; 18:1-30, the Torah reading for Yom Kippur morning describes the service performed on this day by the Kohen Gadol (high priest) in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading Isaiah 57:14-58:14, discusses the concepts of repentance and fasting, the theme du jour of Yom Kippur.

Happy Studying!

Why do you quote and teach from the new testament?

This week, we feature a question from our student Rajah who was curious about Jews teaching old and new testament.

Raja wrote:
In your messages, you teach from old testament teaching and new testament teaching. New testament teaching is Jesus the Messiah.  But you don’t believe it.  Christians take up the cross and walk behind Jesus. But you don’t. Then why do you quote and teach from the New Testament?

Day #28, 29 & 30 of a 30 day series of Torah thoughts by Rabbi Elan Adler.

Root Source teacher, Rabbi Adler has started a 30 day series of Torah thoughts leading to Rosh Hashanah.

Day 28
During my 25 years in the American rabbinate I bristled when I was asked to supply the Hebrew date on a monument for the cemetery. I’d be shown the rest of the wording on the stone and it would be something like “Beloved husband, father and grandfather.” I always felt bad because I knew the person was also a brother, uncle, father in law, son in law, friend etc. I would ask the family if they might consider putting those precious relationships on the stone so as to not leave anyone out and potentially hurt feelings. The response? “It’s too many words.” On my parents’ stones, they should Rest In Peace, we put down EVERY RELATIONSHIP they shared with others family members. Life is about relationships. The more the merrier, even if some can be….uh…..difficult. Spiritual life is about connections- with God, with people and their joys and sorrows, and with ourselves, to find ways to connect to our most authentic selves. Rosh Hashanah is a perfect time to connect, and reconnect, and feel we are part of God’s immense, yet potentially intimate, universe. May we all find that connection we are looking for during the coming Awesome days.
