Dear ,

Campus Campaign Update: We’re more than Halfway There! As you know, we are running a campaign to distribute thousands of copies of our best selling book Israel FIRST! To do that, we are recruiting liaisons who will each distribute thirty books for free. We are giving away free Root Source subscriptions and chances to win free trips to Israel. We have already distributed about half of the books! We also are excited that we have liaisons in almost half of the United States!

This week, the weekly Torah reading Pinchas, is rewarded for his bravery. A census of the Israelites is taken. The daughters of Zelophehad successfully argue for a portion in the land of Israel. Joshua is ordained Moses' successor. God relays to Moses the details of all the holiday sacrifices.

Root Source Interviews and Tours covers one of the most compelling theories we have ever heard about the current location of the Ark of the Covenant, with Dr. Edoardo Recanati. In this segment he explains the clues left to us by Solomon on where to find the Ark, and talks about the parallels between the Exodus and the modern state of Israel.

Root Source Tours continues its Golan excursion with a story about a large rebuilt phase-2 synagogue – the Umm el-Qanatir (or Kanatir) synagogue near the Sea of Galilee. Discovered in 1884 it has been reassembled brick by brick over the last 15 years. Learn the difference between phase-1 and phase-2 synagogues in Israel and how to identify them quickly.

Bob O’Dell talks about the two golden calves that were set up in the Northern Kingdom of Israel in the towns of Dan and Bethel, and shares his opinion of what these two idols can teach us about everyone’s natural bias to lean either to the left and the right.

We sign off with a lovely quote from a Root Source student and a beautiful picture of a person all alone in Jerusalem.

Shalom,

Gidon Ariel and Bob O’Dell

Weekly Portion:
Pinchas – July 15 – 21 Tamuz

In this Shabbat’s weekly Torah portion Pinchas Numbers 25:10 – 30:1, Aaron’s grandson Pinchas is rewarded for his act of zealotry in killing the Simeonite prince Zimri and the Midianite princess who was his paramour: God grants him a covenant of peace and the priesthood.

In this week’s Haftara Prophets reading I Kings 18:46 – 19:21, the prophet Elijah is the main protagonist of this week’s haftorah. According to tradition, Elijah shared the same soul as Pinchas, the hero of this week’s Torah portion. They also both zealously fought on God’s behalf, while disregarding the dangers involved.

Happy Studying!

Where are they now?

Where are they now?  We see them every day!

"What a great blessing for the people of Israel."

Our student Barbara enjoyed Root Source and had this to say.

Barbara wrote:
This is very exciting. With the continuous unearthing of Biblical truths in Israel during this time of redemption, it follows that knowledge of the Ark of the Covenant would come to light. What a great blessing for the people of Israel.
