Gidon Ariel on UK TV Programme! Shalom ,
We recently had the honor
of sitting down with the individual who is often recognized as the father of the US “Jewish Roots” movement, Dr. Marvin Wilson. Dr. Wilson received his Ph.D. from Brandeis University in the Semitic and ancient Near Eastern studies and is the Harold J. Ockenga Professor Biblical and Theological Studies at Gordon College in Massachusetts. He is the author of “Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith” and we are very proud to publicize his support for Root
Source.
In this week’s newsletter we also feature an interview with
Gidon on British TV, as well as a fascinating give and take between one of our teachers and a student. At Root Source, we are continually aware that even though we are online, the teacher-student relationship is our top priority. We invite you to have a taste of that relationship with a free month’s
trial!

Read this fascinating discussion between a Root Source student and Rabbi Elan Adler on Chapters of the Fathers - Pirkei Avot” and join the conversation by clicking here!Dear Rabbi Adler, Who would have been the Sage-Rabbi that Saul (Paul) studied under? Also, in reference to judging and judgment, wouldn't it be appropriate for me to "judge" my thoughts, behaviors
and actions based on Torah? Even looking at others' behavior, I might say to myself, is not appropriate for me according to my understanding of Torah. This may even be acceptable for me to discuss with a family member or friend if I believed they were in error. On the other hand It appears that I'm "passing judgement" on others (a person I'm not in relationship with, an acquaintance or stranger) if I determine they are in error according to my understanding. The danger in judging is that we
easily slip into passing Judgement... At which time we are elevating ourselves to a dangerous position. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions. Shalom, Linda
Hi Linda, Thanks so much for your message, I appreciate your taking the time to listen and
comment....I'm not sure who Paul studied under, I can try and find out......you are right about judging and passing judgment which can lead us to project a superiority and arrogance....I definitely hear that.....our Jewish tradition speaks about rebuke in the Bible, the book of Leviticus chapter 19 verses 17-19 or so, teaching that we should correct or critique others but with gentle words and in a way that gives the person a motivation to change their behavior. I mention this because just as we
have an obligation to say something that ought to be said, we also have an obligation to NOT say something that shouldn't be said. We have to judge the person and situation to assess whether what we have to say will be welcome or not. Now, when it comes to using the Holy Torah as a measuring stick of what good behavior looks like, we may want to preface a critique by saying this idea comes from God in the Torah, and could be elevating for both of us, would you like to hear it? Linda, that sounds
to me very different than a holier than thou attitude. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for listening and shalom! Rabbi Elan Adler
Christine Darg: “...building bridges to facilitate important and timely Jewish-Christian alliances.”

“Root Source is an excellent resource for Christians to make up for lost time to learn about the Hebraic foundation of our faith. I have known
Gidon Ariel and his family for a number of years, and I am convinced that the God of Israel has imparted to Gidon a mandate for such a time as this to bring Christians up to speed on Judaism in an Israeli context. Through Root Source, Gidon and his Christian co-worker Bob O’Dell are building bridges to facilitate important and timely Jewish-Christian alliances.”
