This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, January 11th, is Parashat Vayechi. In this week’s Torah reading, Vayechi, discusses Jacob’s final years. Shortly before his passing, Jacob blesses Joseph’s children as well as his own. A massive funeral procession escorts Jacob’s body to Canaan. The reading, and the Book of Genesis, concludes with Joseph’s death.

Jacob lived his last seventeen years in Egypt. When Jacob sensed that his days were numbered he summoned Joseph and asked him to promise that he would bury him in Israel. Joseph acceded to the request. When Jacob then fell ill, Joseph visited him, accompanied by his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. Jacob conferred upon Ephraim and Manasseh the status of tribal progenitors, a status hitherto enjoyed only by Jacob’s sons. Joseph asked his father to bless Ephraim and Manasseh.

2024 was the Year of the Hamas/Hezbollah War, but in spite of this difficulty, Root Source continued to work on its mission.

Proverbs Chapter 3

If acquiring wisdom is not making you into a better person, something is very wrong. What then is the purpose of becoming wise?

Gidon and Dr. Richard discussed a variety of topics, including the current state of Israeli politics and how the judicial, executive, and legislative branches reflect the Jewish concept of justice. Dr. Booker shared insights about his daily routine and his work on a course about rediscovering the Hebraic roots of Christianity. They also reflected on how life presents constant tests of faith and understanding, emphasizing God's active role in the world's story and His continued sovereignty. Additionally, they noted the historical significance of the Bible as the first book printed by Gutenberg and honored the legacy of the late leader Jack Hayford. For more details, watch the video.
