This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, November 2nd, is Parashat Noach. In this weeks Torah reading, Noach, Noah and his family, along with at least one pair of each living creature, survive the Flood by taking refuge in an Ark.

Join us on November 9th, 2024, as we light up the night in remembrance of Kristallnacht, standing in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters—together, we say "Never Again!"

While society as a whole descended into a state of anarchy and utter corruption, only Noah remained righteous and faithful to G‑d’s ways. Noah was informed by G‑d that a mabul (“flood”) will soon destroy all of civilization, and only Noah and his immediate family would survive in a teivah (“ark,” boat) that he was to build. G‑d gave Noah the exact dimensions of the teivah he was to build, and commanded Noah to bring along into the teivah specimens of every species of animal and bird to repopulate the world after the mabul, and to stock the boat with food to feed all its inhabitants.

For the third consecutive year, LightUptheChurch.org is inviting Christian churches, schools, businesses, and individuals to join hundreds of synagogues worldwide on November 9th, 2024, for a night of remembrance. By leaving lights on throughout the night, participants stand in solidarity with the Jewish community, commemorating Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass," and affirming "Never Again!" Join this powerful movement to honor the memory of those affected by the atrocities of the past.

Noah was under pressure. Noah, his family, and the animal kingdom had endured a whole year drifting in the ark. Noting that the floodwaters were receding and the land was drying, Noah sent out a raven, then a dove (twice), to collect evidence of dry land. After managing this grand menagerie for so long, he must have contemplated: What’s next? Can I do this?

Fear of God and the Binding of Isaac

In our second lesson of our course on Fear of God in the Hebrew Bible, we continue with the book of Genesis and follow the patriarch Abraham. We examine perhaps the most controversial episode of the Hebrew Bible, The Binding of Isaac, and explore the role of fearing God and standing up to tests of faith.

Gidon and Alan, discussing their faith, shared stories and worked on a project to light up a church in remembrance of Kristallnacht. They also debated the war, with Gidon sharing his experiences giving lectures about it on TV stations.

Root Source friend Paul Calvert spoke with Gidon Ariel from Root Source about the Israeli attack on Iran. He asked him about Israelis’ opinion of the attack, and what might happen next.
