This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, October 26th, is Parashat Bereshit. In this weeks Torah reading, Bereishit, G‑d creates the world in six days and rests on the seventh. Adam and Eve eat from the Tree of Knowledge and are expelled from the Garden of Eden.

Join us on November 9th, 2024, as we light up the night in remembrance of Kristallnacht, standing in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters—together, we say "Never Again!"

This section recounts the story of creation in six days. On the first day G‑d made darkness and light. On the second day He formed the heavens, dividing the “upper waters” from the “lower waters.” On the third day He set the boundaries of land and sea and called forth trees and greenery from the earth. On the fourth day He fixed the position of the sun, moon and stars. Fish, birds and reptiles were created on the fifth day; land-animals, and then the human being, Adam, on the sixth. G‑d ceased work on the seventh day, and sanctified it as a day of rest.

For the third consecutive year, LightUptheChurch.org is inviting Christian churches, schools, businesses, and individuals to join hundreds of synagogues worldwide on November 9th, 2024, for a night of remembrance. By leaving lights on throughout the night, participants stand in solidarity with the Jewish community, commemorating Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass," and affirming "Never Again!" Join this powerful movement to honor the memory of those affected by the atrocities of the past.

At the beginning of creation, there were no distinct entities; it was all a jumble––“unformed and void.” The essential ingredients were there, but they needed to be distilled and differentiated: Once God created light, it could only be appreciated when separated from the darkness.

Giant Footprints in Israel

In this lesson, Root Source Tours takes you up in the air to see the mysterious, giant Footprints near the Jordan River in Israel, and looks across the Jordan River valley to see the mountains of Moab.
