This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, December 14th, is Parashat Vayetzei. In this week’s Torah reading, Jacob returns to Canaan, but is fearful of his brother Esau. They meet and make peace. Jacob wrestles with an angel, and his name is changed to Israel.

Jacob’s daughter Dinah is abducted by the prince of Shechem. Shimon and Levi destroy the city of Shechem and liberate Dinah. Rachel dies while giving birth to Jacob’s twelfth son, Benjamin. Isaac dies.

Bar-Ilan University has launched a new online course, Jerusalem: A Journey Through Time, taught by renowned archaeologist Prof. Aren Maeir. Available on edX, the course explores Jerusalem's rich history and archaeology, from its prehistoric origins to the Muslim conquest. Covering periods like the Hebrew Bible, Christian Bible, 1st and 2nd Temples, and the Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine eras, it highlights the city’s religious, political, and archaeological significance.

Gidon and Alan had an in-depth discussion about personal experiences, Jewish traditions, and religious practices, including Tashlich, Shabbat rules, and the concept of an "aruv." They also explored the history of Jewish communities in the U.S., biblical themes like the land promise to Abraham and the Noahide commandments, and the broader understanding of the Jewish community.
