This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, November 16th, is Parashat Vayera. In this week’s Torah reading, angels visit Abraham and Sarah, informing them that Sarah would give birth to a child despite her advanced age. The angels whisk Lot and his daughters out of Sodom, and overturn and destroy the entire region.

Last Saturday, November 9th, 2024, we lit up the night in remembrance of Kristallnacht. We stood in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters, declaring together: "Never Again!" Thank you to everyone who joined and rejoined this powerful event—your participation made it a true success.

Our beloved Root Source teacher, Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz of blessed memory, left behind a legacy of Torah teaching. His organization and family continue that legacy, and have given Root Source permission to share these weekly thoughts with our Root Source audience. G‑d paid Abraham a visit, as he sat at the entrance of his tent. Abraham suddenly noticed three travelers passing by, and ran to invite them into his home. These passersby, who were actually angels in human disguise, accepted the invitation, and Abraham and Sarah prepared a sumptuous feast for them. The angels informed Abraham that Sarah would give birth to a child exactly one year later. Eighty-nine-year-old, post-menopausal Sarah, who was standing nearby, heard this assurance, and laughed. G‑d was displeased with Sarah’s lack of faith.

This past Saturday night, we held a meaningful campaign to honor Kristallnacht. For the third consecutive year, LightUptheChurch.org invited Christian churches, schools, businesses, and individuals to stand in solidarity with hundreds of synagogues worldwide. On November 9th, 2024, participants left their lights on to commemorate the "Night of Broken Glass" and affirm, "Never Again!" We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who joined us this year. Check out the remarkable list of participants who stood with us and rejoined this powerful movement to remember and support the Jewish community.

Gidon and Richard discussed the US election, the importance of the electoral college system, and the significance of remembering and learning from the past, particularly the Holocaust. They also emphasized the need for taking action to support persecuted Christians and counteract negative teachings against Jewish people. The conversation concluded with a casual catch-up on personal matters and mutual well-wishes.

Our friends at the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in Germany gave an address during the European Coalition for Israel commemoration of October 7, 2023, held opposite the Palais Wilson in Geneva (OHCHR) on October 9, 2024. Please see the PDF version of it here. 

On October 7, 2023,  a massacre of the Jewish people took place,  the likes of which have not been seen since the Holocaust.  

Since then, Israel has been fighting to survive.  

We forget—or don’t want to see—that Israel is fighting this battle not just for itself, but for all of us, the whole Western world:  for our freedom  against terrorism.  

Isn’t it time to thank Israel instead of constantly condemning it?
