Korach, Moses’ first cousin, stages a rebellion against Moses and Aaron. Together with a few ringleaders, he gathers 250 men of renown and accuses Moses and Aaron of power hoarding. “The entire congregation is holy, and the L-rd is in their midst. So why do you raise yourselves above the L-rd’s assembly?” They took specific issue with the appointment of Aaron as High Priest.

Following Korach’s confrontation with Moses, we will illustrate the prideful type, characterized by traits like being a ‘know-it-all,’ albeit intelligent, slow to apologize, quick to brag, and unresponsive to criticism.

This is the second lesson in a series that comes from Return to Mecca, a book written by Avi Lipkin.

For the 4th of July, fireworks used to be a big part of the celebration, but now there's a preference for less noise. The USA has Jewish foundations, highlighted by Hyam Solomon, who funded the American Revolution and is buried in Philadelphia. The Pilgrims, Hebraic spiritual founders, landed at Plymouth Rock and Cape Cod, waiting until after the Sabbath to disembark. They saw their journey as a reenactment of the Exodus, with King James as their Pharaoh. They crossed the Atlantic like the Red Sea, and on the Mayflower, they established The Mayflower Compact, similar to the Israelites' Covenant. The original laws of the 13 colonies were based on the Five Books of Moses, paralleling the founding of Israel.
