This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, September 21st, is Parashat Ki Tavo. This week’s reading, the Israelites are commanded to bring the first of their fruit to the Temple, and to deliver all tithes to their proper recipients.

This mitzvah applies to fruits and produce grown in the land of Israel, and only those for which the land of Israel is praised: wheat, barley, dates, figs, grapes, pomegranates and olives. When in the Temple, the owner of the fruits recites a brief thanksgiving prayer to G‑d and presents the produce to the priests.

Gidon and Jeff discussed various topics, including an event Gidon is organizing in October and the significance of the Fall festivals of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. They also talked about the development of Jewish teachings, highlighting the differences between the Mishnah, the Talmud, and the New Testament. When explaining Rosh Hashanah, they described it as the Jewish New Year, a time of reflection, prayer, and the beginning of the ten-day period of repentance that leads up to Yom Kippur.
