This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, September 3rd, is Parashat Shoftim. This week’s reading, Shoftim, addresses fundamental issues pertaining to the leadership of the Jewish people. It begins with a discussion regarding judges, and later gives rules pertaining to kings, prophets and kohanim (priests).

We are commanded to appoint judges in every city of Israel. These judges are instructed to adjudicate fairly. Capital punishment is prescribed for idolatry, and various idolatrous practices are banned.

Last week Gidon was interviewed on the Christian Friends of Emunah Israel podcast with our friends Ruth Guggenheim and Stephen and Melissa Briggs.

Gidon, shares his journey from growing up in Queens to embracing his Jewish identity and moving to Israel. Root Source connects Orthodox Israeli Jews with Christians worldwide to foster Jewish-Christian engagement through studying Jewish texts and building respectful relationships. Inspired by his positive experiences with Christian support for Israel, Gidon founded Root Source, which has since expanded globally, offering courses and publications. He emphasizes the importance of personal relationships and shared beliefs, and introduces the Institute of Midrash Studies to deepen interfaith understanding.

This mystifying ceremony was to be performed when a person was found lying slain in an open area, and the perpetrator was unknown, thus preventing the courts from trying the culprit and precluding any option for the victim’s family to revenge the victim’s death.

Giant Footprints in Israel
