This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, June 15th, is Parashat Nasso. In this week’s portion, G‑d informs Moses of the Tabernacle duties of the Levite families of Gershon and Merari. When the Jewish people journeyed, the Gershon family transported the Tabernacle tapestries, veils and coverings, while the Merari family carried its structural components, such as the beams, boards and pillars.

G‑d informs Moses of the Tabernacle duties of the Levite families of Gershon and Merari. When the Jewish people journeyed, the Gershon family transported the Tabernacle tapestries, veils and coverings, while the Merari family carried its structural components, such as the beams, boards and pillars. A final count is given of the Levite Kehot family — those between the ages of thirty and fifty, as per G‑d’s command mentioned towards the end of last week’s reading: 2,750.

At the festivities surrounding the dedication of the Tabernacle, each tribe sent their chieftain to represent them in presenting the tribe’s various offerings. Nahshon, of the tribe of Judah, was the first to approach the Tabernacle for this purpose.[1] The plan for the Tabernacle dedication ceremony was to devote each day to another of the 12 tribal chieftains as they brought their offerings (Numbers 7:12–83).

I Will Be What I Will Be

Among the questions that Moshe asks God before agreeing to except his destiny at the Burning Bush, is the question of what name he should use to demonstrate to the Israelites that God has indeed sent him. The answer he receives is 'I Will Be What I Will Be'. Is this a new name of God? What does is mean?

Initially, G‑d instructs Moses to count the Gershonites and Merarites, detailing their duties in caring for and carrying the Tabernacle's various components during the Israelites' journeys. The Gershonites are responsible for the Tabernacle's tapestries, veils, and coverings, while the Merarites handle its structural elements, including beams, boards, and pillars.

Touring Israel offers unique challenges and profound spiritual insights. During Shavuot, Gidon participated in numerous Torah lessons, highlighting the festival's significance.
