This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, March 23rd, is Vayikra. This Torah portion in the Book of Leviticus, God tells Moses about the sacrifices offered in the Mishkan (Tabernacle). Among these are sacrifices entirely burnt on the altar, meal offerings made of flour and oil, peace offerings, and sacrifices brought for sinning inadvertently.

This week’s portion will provide a description of the various sacrifices – animal, fowl, and meal-offerings – offered by the priests in this newly constructed Sanctuary.

Purim and Mishloach Manot

One of the most important parts of Purim is sending gifts of food ("Mishloach Manot") to others, as mentioned in Esther 9:22 which enjoins the Jewish people to observe the days of Purim "as days of feasting and gladness, and sending portions of food to one another, and gifts to the poor." (Reference: Wiki)
 

Today, with the Hamas war raging in the south and the Hizbollah war brewing in the north, many Israelis are in relatively dire straits, and would be encouraged to receive such gifts.

And getting such a gift from a pro-Israel Christian who loves them would double the delight!

Hutch and Gidon had a theological discussion about the Old Testament, specifically the story of Abram and his sons. Hutch emphasized the relevance of the Old Testament for understanding modern times, but Gidon argued that Abram and Sarah’s actions were an act of obedience to God’s command.

Gidon and Joshua discussed the pronunciation and usage of the name Xerxes in the biblical story of Esther. Gidon clarified that in Jewish contexts, the Hebrew term “Ahashverosh” is used instead of Xerxes. He also mentioned the Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern, which includes commentary on the name, and Joshua expressed interest in obtaining a copy.
