This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, November 11th, is Chayei Sara. This Torah portion opens as Sarah dies and Abraham buys the Cave of Machpelah to bury her. Abraham sends his servant to find a wife for Isaac. The servant meets Rebecca at a well, and Rebecca returns with the servant to marry Isaac. Abraham remarries, has more children, and dies at age 175.

Sarah died at the age of 127, and her grieving husband Abraham identified a plot in the city of Hebron that he wished to procure for use as a family burial ground. This plot, a cave situated in the Machpela field, belonged to Ephron the Hittite, so Abraham approached the Hittite tribe and asked for permission to purchase the parcel of land.

They also debated the war, with Gidon sharing his experiences giving lectures about it on TV stations. The financial practices of their organization were also discussed, clarifying their status as a registered incorporated church with the State of Texas and as a nonprofit entity, but not a 501 c. 3. The concept of free will and predestination in Jewish and Christian theology was a topic of their discussion, with Gidon emphasizing Jewish belief in free choice and Alan acknowledging God’s capacity to provide warnings or wake-up calls.

Gidon and Mark discussed recent events in Israel, including a military action where the IDF released one of the hostages. They also recorded a conversation for Mark’s podcast, “People of the Land,” and touched upon various topics related to Israel’s geography, politics, and recent violence. Gidon expressed his distress over the recurring terror attacks and rising number of casualties, while Mark expressed empathy and support for Gidon and his people. They also discussed their belief in the importance of finding joy and praying for peace and protection for Israel and its soldiers.
