This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, March 25th, is Vayikra. In Vayikra (“He Called”), the first Torah portion in the Book of Leviticus, God tells Moses about the sacrifices offered in the Mishkan (Tabernacle). Among these are sacrifices entirely burnt on the altar, meal offerings made of flour and oil, peace offerings, and sacrifices brought for sinning inadvertently.

Little by little over the past few decades but growing more and more over the past few years, a community of activists in the Christian-Jewish engagement space has developed, with people reaching out to each other to promote fraternity and humanitarian projects in and between the Christian and Jewish communities.

In this monthly column, we will focus on one of these leaders, and share an interview with her or him, hearing how they got to where they are today, learning about some of their projects, and thinking about what God is doing with regard to Jewish-Christian relations.

“When” a ruler has sinned:

Dealing with failure at work

Who hasn’t had some failure at work? Blunders for managers or employees, such as missed calculations, inaccurate assumptions, hiring the wrong person, or losing a client, are inevitable at work; acknowledging them has important ramifications for the individual and the organization. For instance, job interviewers may ask for an example of how you have dealt with failure. This is a kind of ‘trick’ question. Note that the interviewer didn’t ask if you’ve ever experienced failure. The embedded presupposition is, “Certainly, you’ve experienced failure; we all have. We want to know how you dealt with it.”
