This coming Shabbat's Torah portion, read on Saturday, December 3, is Vayetzei . This portion talks about Jacob that stays for twenty years in Charan before returning to Canaan. During his stay he shepherds Laban’s sheep, and survives and prospers despite all his uncle’s attempted deceptions.

"Thank you Rabbi Ariel for this conversation. It makes me appreciate writing which I am better at than speaking. However this is good practice. On the issue of the oral explanation of the Torah that you brought up, I should have added that we also have a similar set of rules and principles written out from the Word of God by the “sages” of the Christian faith, that is applicable to practical living. The only difference is that in the Jewish tradition these revelations are said to have been given to Moses (the written and the oral). But these were also interpreted and expounded by sages later as well, such as the Midrash, the Mishna, the Gemera, The Talmud, etc… see I’m better at writing than at speaking 🙂"
